Pre-development testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed residential development. Nine trenches were mechanically excavated. The stratigraphy encountered consisted of sod and topsoil overlying an orange/brown silty clay with occasional small and medium-sized stones. This in turn overlay a natural gravel layer with frequent small and medium-sized stones in the east of the site and a natural grey daub layer with occasional stone inclusions in the remainder. The only finds were a number of 19th-/20th-century pottery fragments from Trenches G and F. A number of the trenches were excavated through the site of the Fair Green, but no features associated with it were revealed.
