Monitoring of the Castletown Group-Water Scheme was carried out between 8 April and 28 June 2002. The scheme involved the laying of a pipeline, c. 6km long and 100mm in diameter, and included two intakes (100mm in diameter), a reservoir (5m in diameter) and a plant house (4m by 3m). The impact assessment had recommended monitoring of those sections of the pipeline in the vicinity of monuments, of which there were seven, SMR 8:50, 8:52, 8:54, 8:55, 8:56, 8:73 and 8:76. It also recommended monitoring of topsoil-stripping in the greenfield areas for the construction of the plant house, intakes and reservoir. The trench excavated for the pipeline was 0.5–0.8m wide and 1.0–1.4m deep.
One feature, a fulacht fiadh, was uncovered during monitoring. This was excavated by Christopher Read (No. 1652, Excavations 2002, 02E0805).
