Pre-development testing took place at the site of a proposed dwelling-house at Castle Street, Roscommon. Three trenches, all oriented east–west and 1m wide, were mechanically excavated. Trench 1 was 10m long; Trench 2 was 7m long; and Trench 3 was 5m long. The removal of sod and topsoil revealed an orange/brown natural marl with occasional stone. Occasional 20th-century glass fragments and fragments of willow pattern ware were found in the topsoil in Trenches 1 and 3. No features or artefacts of archaeological significance were present.
