This excavation was carried out at the southern end of Ballybeg Bog, Co. Offaly. Two cuttings were opened at either side of a Bord na Móna drain. They revealed a small wooden platform comprising an upper layer of parallel roundwoods and a lower layer of irregularly laid brushwood. The two layers of wood were exposed in one cutting, but only the lower layer was present in the other cutting as the Bord na Móna field was at a lower level. The oval platform measured 6m by 10m. It was probably a small dry platform area for hunting or other such activities, which may be ascertained through the analysis of the peat and further, post-excavation research.
