Six test-trenches were excavated on this site in November 2002. The trenching confirmed, as expected, that the site, which lay outside the town wall and has seen little development throughout its history, consisted of a low-lying boggy area through which a stream flowed. A few scattered sherds of medieval pottery were uncovered from the naturally formed silt and organic deposits.
