An assessment was undertaken at the site of a proposed housing development at Ratoath, Co. Meath. The development is partially within the zone of archaeological potential of the historical town. A total of 38 trenches, measuring 30–100m, were excavated on 18 and 19 December 2002 with the aid of a mechanical excavator. The sod and topsoil had an average depth of 0.33m and lay directly above the natural clays and gravels exposed on-site. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and a number of post-medieval and modern pottery sherds were recovered from the sod and topsoil.
