Meath County Council carried out road resurfacing and pipe laying on Main Street. The work was concentrated at the western end of Main Street and the Kingscourt Road. Monitoring was carried out, as the works took place within the zone of archaeological potential.
A water main and surface-water drainage pipe were placed along the line of an existing water main on the south side of the Kingscourt Road. Road resurfacing comprised the removal of the road surface to a depth of c. 0.8–1m. Natural stiff brown clay, containing single small boulders, lay underneath. Hardcore was then brought in to bring up the level of the road. The excavation did not extend across the entire width of Main Street: parking space on either side of the street was left undisturbed. Existing drainage pipes and associated trenches were exposed on either side of the street, running parallel to the footpaths. An earthenware pipe ran along the south side, and a concrete pipe extended along the north side. These pipes will be replaced. Nothing of archaeological significance was exposed during excavation.
