Excavation was carried out on behalf of Westmeath County Council at Newcastle 1, Co. Meath, before the construction of the M4 Kinnegad–Enfield– Kilcock Motorway Scheme, Contract 2, from 30 September to 12 October 2002. The site had been noted during route testing as two possible post-holes. The posts were not relocated during excavation, and no other features were exposed. The features noted during testing were possibly patches of decayed stone, which were widespread across the area.
The site was of no archaeological significance.
