Six test-trenches were opened during the assessment of a proposed housing development at Mornington, Co. Meath. All were excavated in the western part of the site. The sod and topsoil were an average of 0.38m deep and lay directly above the natural, mid-brown, sandy clay. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and a number of 19th–20th-century pottery sherds were recovered from the sod and topsoil. A second phase of testing will have to be carried out in the eastern part of the site before any proposed works.
