Monitoring of topsoil removal was carried out at a greenfield site at Townparks, Moynalty Road, Kells, Co. Meath, from 1 to 12 July 2002. Topsoil was stripped using a machine fitted with a toothless grading bucket. No traces of archaeological features or artefacts were found, but a series of post-medieval furrows (associated with ridge-and-furrow cultivation) and French drains were uncovered. These features possibly related to activity associated with the 19th-century poorhouse/workhouse situated in the vicinity of this site.
