Monitoring of the capital dredging associated with cutting the trench for Bord Gáis Éireann’s Irish Subsea Interconnector pipeline identified a significant number of timber fragments at the landfall site at Gormanston, Co. Meath. The source area was investigated underwater, and the remains of a logboat were discovered and excavated in situ. The boat is the first such vessel to be identified and recovered from an active marine context in Ireland. It is currently undergoing conservation for storage as part of the collections of the National Museum of Ireland.
