An assessment was carried out on the site of a proposed housing development in the townland of Grangend, Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath. The site lies within a designated zone of archaeological potential.
Seven test-trenches were excavated. A number of small potential archaeological features were identified within these: a pit, three possible ditches and a small curving linear feature, all of which had charcoal inclusions. As a result, it was recommended that, if the proposed development is allowed to proceed, all topsoil-stripping should be monitored and that the potential archaeological features identified during this assessment should be fully investigated before any construction work takes place.
