Monitoring of groundworks at the site of a residential development in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, was carried out in July 2002. Testing had been undertaken on the site by Rosanne Meenan in April 2001 (Excavations 2001, No. 965). Four trenches were excavated, three of which were featureless. The fourth contained two east–west-running drainage channels from which no archaeological material was recovered. The report concluded that the possibility of discovering of stray archaeological finds or remains during construction could not be ruled out. In addition, the eastern part of the site is within the zone of archaeological potential of Dunshaughlin. Consequently, archaeological monitoring of topsoil-stripping was recommended.
Seventeen foundation trenches were excavated as part of the groundworks associated with the development. Nothing of archaeological significance was exposed in the trenches, and no artefacts were found.
