Testing was undertaken at an ‘enclosure site’ in the townland of Cabragh, Co. Meath. The testing was carried out as part of a cultural heritage assessment for inclusion in an environmental impact statement being prepared with regard to the development of a golf-course.
The site is not is marked on any OS 6-inch map. It was originally identified as a circular cropmark on aerial photographs taken by The Discovery Programme: Tara Project. The diameter of the site is estimated to be c. 35m.
Two trenches were excavated by machine at right angles to each other. It had been expected that the subsurface remains of the enclosing element of the site might have been uncovered. However, no such enclosing features or any other subsurface remains were encountered.
