It was proposed to demolish the existing garage and to construct a double domestic garage, insert dormer windows and build a sunroom extension to the dormer dwelling of ‘Elm Lawn’, Balrath, Navan, Co. Meath.
Nine trenches were excavated in the area of the proposed sunroom (Trenches 1–5) and double garage (Trenches 6–9). The sod and topsoil were an average of 0.2m thick and directly overlay the natural orange clay and gravel. A foundation cut for the house was visible in Trench 5, filled with a dark brown, crumbly clay containing frequent inclusions of roots and moderate amounts of round stone. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed.
