A site (Area A) of possible archaeological significance was identified during pre-development testing at Ballynakill, Enfield, Co. Meath. A test-excavation strategy was formulated on the basis of the geophysics results (licence 01R033), which showed weak linear responses and pit-type anomalies. Four trenches were opened by machine. Two features were identified, both small pits with heat-affected fills, which were very similar. Their position immediately below the topsoil suggested a late date. No artefacts, features, structures or deposits of archaeological significance were uncovered.
