The proposed development entailed the construction of a boathouse and adjoining slipway at Kildownet, Achill Sound, Co. Mayo. The site is close to SMR 65:24, an ecclesiastical site. Four test-trenches were excavated by machine on 2 July 2002. Topsoil and sod consistently overlay mixed layers comprising peaty clays and peat, which overlay natural gravel and sands, decaying stone and bedrock. Nothing of archaeological significance was observed during testing.
