Testing within the protected area of an enclosure was undertaken in September 2002. The site was investigated as part of the Ballyhaunis Water-Supply Augmentation Scheme (No. 1374, Excavations 2002, 02E0522). This testing zone was 100m long, 25m wide and c. 40m from the surviving monument; it was separated from it by the Tuam road.
The area was tested mechanically and stripped to undisturbed boulder clay. Extensive and regular patterns of cultivation furrows were noted across the test area.
No features or finds of archaeological significance were uncovered.
