An investigation was carried out on the football pitch at Glen Emmets Gaelic Football Club, Tullyallen, Drogheda, Co. Louth, where it is proposed to reduce and level the playing pitches. At the time of this investigation the site was occupied by two sports pitches and a small dressing room that was situated toward the southern boundary of the site. An assessment of this site was carried out by Tara O’Neill on 30 and 31 January 2002, in which four areas were stripped of topsoil onto the natural boulder clay (No. 1365, Excavations 2002). The purpose of this investigation was to resolve two possible archaeological features identified during the assessment phase, but no visible evidence of them could be found. This may be a direct result of the nature of the reinstated ground and the poor weather conditions during both the original reinstatement and the present excavation. It is possible that the features were not of an archaeological nature but natural depressions. Therefore, this investigation indicates that this site contains no archaeological features within Area 2.
