An assessment took place at the site of a proposed development, a single, dormer dwelling, at Mullaghtee, Greenore, Co. Louth. The development fell within 20m of a castle in ruins. The testing was carried out on 5 June 2002. Five trenches were excavated by mechanical excavator, revealing no evidence of archaeological activity. The line of a culverted stream was identified during the excavation. It was clearly evident, where it terminates at the roadside, that this was a culvert and not a souterrain, although its method of construction may have caused confusion in the past and it may be the feature referred to as a cave (SMR 9:20(1)).
