An assessment took place at the site of a proposed residential development within the zone of archaeological potential of Louth village, an important centre in medieval times. The site was immediately west of the Roman Catholic church, on the site of the former credit union. Two trenches were excavated; both contained simple stratigraphy in the form of a shallow (0.1–0.3m) layer of topsoil over stony grey subsoil. No archaeological features were noted in either trench, and no archaeological material was recovered from the topsoil.
