An assessment took place at the site of a proposed development at 24–25 West Street/Stockwell Lane, Drogheda, Co. Louth, in July 2002. An architectural assessment of the extant structures at the site was carried out in January 2002 before the demolition of the superstructures at the site. This report concluded that both structures were of 18th-century date, although there was evidence of the possible reuse of earlier building material. No. 25 West Street incorporated a basement; No. 24 had none.
Two trenches were opened at the site. It was established that the basement of No. 25 had been cut through to natural. However, the trench excavated in the footprint of No. 24 indicated that substantial archaeological strata and possible structural remains survived in this part of the site.
An excavation of the section of the site corresponding to No. 24 was carried out under a separate licence (No. 1322, Excavations 2002, 02E1268). Monitoring of all additional groundworks was undertaken after excavation but did not identify any further archaeological material.
