An assessment was carried out in response to a recommendation by DĂșchas after a pre-planning enquiry on the site of a proposed extension to the existing business premises, which would involve the demolition of two listed buildings that abut some of the remains of the medieval abbey and the removal of the upper courses of a wall that defines the lane to the west, in order to construct a footpath. The buildings were inspected by Pauline Gleeson, Jackie Donnelly (architect) and Jill Chadwick (conservation architect) and appeared to be of 19th-century date.
A single test-trench was excavated to determine a date for the wall from which it is proposed to remove the upper courses. The trench revealed material of 18th-/19th-century character consisting of red brick and mortar. The upper courses of the wall were obviously later than this material.
