This site was identified during testing by Shane Delaney of IAC Ltd (No. 1291, Excavations 2002, 02E0373) before construction of the Dundalk Western Bypass. Excavation revealed evidence of habitation dating to the Late Neolithic (with dating tentatively based on 63 pottery sherds recovered from the site). An alignment of four substantial post-holes was uncovered running through a heavily truncated metalled surface, probably the remains of the floor surface of the house. At the eastern end of the house a scatter of over 100 stake-holes was found, representing the remains of a wicker wall or windbreak against the prevailing easterly winds from the Irish Sea. Ten flint scrapers were recovered, all showing signs of heavy use.
