Testing took place of two route options for the proposed N52 Ardee Bypass where they pass through a medieval, D-shaped enclosure that contains a cemetery. The eastern end of the test area was in both route options. In this area a single east–west inhumation burial in a possible stone-lined grave, two circular pits and a possible wall foundation were recorded.
The northern route option contained very little of archaeological significance, with only a small area of post-medieval cobbled surface recorded. Testing of the southern route option yielded nineteen potential inhumation burials, three pit-type features and nineteen linear and curvilinear ditch-type features. Most of these linear features tie in with a multiple-ditched enclosure and associated field systems that were highlighted during geophysical testing of the site area.
