The high-cairn crannog in Derragh Lough (SMR 11:51) is in the middle of the lake, which connects to Lough Kinale via a small channel. A geomatic survey identified a series of distinct morphological features. Divers from Dúchas carried out a detailed search both around the edges of the site and outside of it to find underwater structures. A limited excavation retrieved samples for dating. There are indications that this site was in use during the later part of the early medieval period (Fredengren 2002).
