Monitoring was conducted during topsoil-stripping for a realigned quarry road at Tennalough, Carrickboy, Co. Longford. An earlier quarry road had been constructed but near to and partially impinging on an enclosure, SMR 23:20.
A topsoil bund of material excavated from the original road was moved further away from the monument and examined using a trowel and a metal-detector under licence 02R0149, but no finds were recovered. The sod and topsoil of the adjacent field were stripped down to the natural, light brown, sandy clay for a maximum width of 15m. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and no finds were recovered. The hardcore that constituted the original road was excavated and redeposited in the realigned road, and the subsoil bund that overlay the monument ditch to the north was removed and used to backfill and level the disturbed ground.
