This site was examined as part of Bord Gáis Éireann’s Pipeline to the West. A single, isolated post-hole or small pit was excavated. The cut was oval, measuring 0.34m by 0.26m, and was 0.18m deep, with steep sides and a concave base. The fill was a dark brown, silty clay with occasional stones and a moderate amount of charcoal. There was evidence of in situ burning, with the natural geological deposits in the sides of the feature being oxidised. Possible packing stones were also observed in the edges of the fill. No artefacts were recovered, and the feature remains undated.

Interpretation is difficult. The form of the cut and the presence of packing stones appeared to indicate a post-hole; however, no other features were observed in the vicinity to form a structure or even a fence. Although in situ burning would be more common in a hearth, this feature was rather small to house a fire. The fill was not typical of prehistoric features in the area, which often contain burnt stones, and it is possible that the post-hole is post-medieval, relating in some way to the nearby site of Castle Ievers (SMR 31:88).
