Small-scale monitoring of minor trenching to facilitate rainwater and sewerage management was undertaken in two phases at the Old Coach House, Desmond Hall, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick. Previously excavations in the Coach House had revealed a medieval curtain wall oriented diagonally throughout the interior (Excavations 2001, No. 784). Three narrow cuttings (0.4–0.6m wide) were opened along the south-eastern, southern and south-western limits of the building. They contained a loose, mixed, modern fill, 0.3–0.5m deep. A fourth cutting, extending eastward along the Arra River to connect with the existing sewage line near the bridge, was on average 0.7m wide and 0.7m deep. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded.
