Monitoring was undertaken before the construction of five retail units with overhead apartments, at Bishop’s Street, within the zone of archaeological potential of Newcastle West. It was found that most of the site had been artificially raised with modern rubble, which directly overlay the boulder-clay natural. Nothing of archaeological significance was found.
