Monitoring before the construction of a house took place at Mauricetown, near Ashford. The site is close to an enclosure.
A stream bounded the northern part of the site. The stratigraphy was relatively uniform throughout. Topsoil was 0.1–0.15m deep and consisted of a mid-brown sandy silt with flecks of charcoal and modern crockery. Some sporadic in situ burning was also observed. The topsoil was noticeably deeper (up to 0.4m) in the southern end of the access road. This was due to a natural dip adjacent to the bounding road and the nearby stream, which may have encouraged the build-up of topsoil. The topsoil overlay a mid-brown/yellow, sandy clay with sporadic patches of grey clay, which became gradually more sandy and stony with greater depth. No archaeological features or artefacts were observed.
