During advance works undertaken for the conservation of St John’s Cathedral, two trial-holes were excavated beneath the tower on the northern side of the building. Both measured 1m by 1m and were excavated down to the naturally occurring boulder clay. No archaeological material was encountered. An existing cross will be moved to a new location in the grounds. This area was monitored, as was a service trench that crosses the front lawn of the Presbytery. No archaeological material was encountered at either location.
