Testing was undertaken for four phases of house development in the grounds of the Castle Oaks Hotel. The development site surrounded a souterrain, although the monument was within a green space. Despite the excavation of several hundred metres of trenches, nothing of archaeological significance was noted. This site had particularly high potential, as it is adjacent to the River Shannon and directly north of a site at Hermitage (SMR 1:1) where substantial prehistoric remains were excavated in 2001 (Excavations 2001, No. 763, 01E0319 ext.). Monitoring of the site is being carried out on an intermittent basis.
