SMR 13:152 is a possible enclosure. A desk-based assessment carried out to ascertain the impact, if any, on the archaeological landscape of a proposed gas pipeline between Barnakyle and Coonagh West, Co. Limerick, confirmed that the construction wayleave would directly affect this monument.
Six trenches were excavated. Testing failed to reveal either subsurface features or portable finds. A lengthy bank-like feature was seen to extend from the north-east corner to the southern extent of the field, where it appeared to terminate. No above-ground expression could be detected at the east of the site. This feature, however, is much larger than the recorded SMR site, and a number of similar, though smaller, linear ridges can also be detected in this area. It is therefore suggested that the features originally interpreted as the remains of a possible enclosure are in fact geological ridges. This general area is gently undulating, and a number of other natural ridges have been recorded in the immediate landscape.
