This site was examined as part of Bord Gáis Éireann’s Pipeline to the West. An area of what appeared to be heat-shattered stone was recorded during monitoring. Two nearby, and initially similar, deposits were also noted (BGE 3/42/2, 3, see No. 1209, Excavations 2002, 02E0900, and No. 1112, Excavations 2002, 02E0848, excavated by Kate Taylor). These areas proved to be burnt spreads, but the excavation of this site did not reveal archaeology. Shale, naturally outcropping in sandstone and shattered by the stripping machinery, had suggested archaeological deposits.
