This site was examined as part of Bord Gáis Éireann’s Pipeline to the West. During monitoring of topsoil-stripping an amorphous deposit of red silty clay was observed. Subsequent excavation showed that this deposit represented localised heating of the natural clay. The fire-scorched area measured c. 1.5m by 3m, and the topsoil was c. 0.1m thick. It would not be unreasonable to suppose that the fire was recent. No archaeological deposits, cut features or artefacts were found.
