This site was examined as part of Bord Gáis Éireann’s Pipeline to the West. Two linear features were excavated within a limited area. A shallow ditch, aligned south-west/north-east across the excavated area, was visible for a length of 13m. The ditch was 0.5–0.8m wide and, in the single excavated slot, 0.15m deep. The fill of this feature was a mid-brown silty sand with a moderate amount of charcoal inclusions.
The second feature was a narrow gully perpendicular to the ditch, although there was a 5.5m gap between the two. The gully was visible for 3m; it was 0.3m wide and, where excavated, 0.1m deep, with a bowl-shaped profile. The fill was a dark brown, sandy silt with a moderate amount of charcoal inclusions and occasional charcoal flecks.
No artefacts were recovered; however, the deposits contained in the ditch and gully appeared to be fairly recent, although they were clearly not modern.
Given the nature of the fills of these two features, and the fact that their layout was roughly aligned with the current field boundaries in the vicinity, it is thought that this site represents late post-medieval agricultural activity.
