Testing was undertaken at a site to the rear of Coffey’s pastry shop on the corner of Bridge Street and the Dublin road, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. The development involved the construction, within the zone of archaeological potential of the medieval town, of a number of retail units and apartments. Testing comprised the excavation of a single trench along the length of the proposed site, 40m long. Excavation exposed two foundations: an early wall toward the east of the site and a later, concrete foundation to the west of the trench. The early wall was 0.8m wide and was exposed at 1.1m below the present surface level. A single sherd of medieval pottery was retrieved from a context in the vicinity of the wall.
