Two small test-pits were cut through the floor of a terraced house between the Jerpoint Inn and the Allied Irish Bank, in Market Street. Thicker walls (c. 1.1m) found below the present front and rear walls, and a thick wall standing between the house and the AIB, appear to be the remains of a medieval building, with original floor level c. 0.7m below present floor level and a replacement floor level c. 0.2m higher.
The raised floor is almost certainly a response to flooding. Pottery suggests that the medieval building was demolished and replaced in the late 18th or early 19th century.
