Testing was carried out at the townlands of Mullinabro and Kilmacow as part of investigation works for the N25 Waterford Bypass. The site was selected for investigation because of its prominent location with potential for human settlement. A number of archaeological features, of varying importance, were identified. Two distinct areas of burnt-mound material were recorded. These were truncated by two linear features, of unknown date, and lay adjacent to a medieval corn-drying kiln. Evidence of removed field boundaries and stone-lined 19th-century drains was also recorded.
Proposals for mitigation before construction included full excavation of the kiln and burnt-mound material. Excavation of the removed field boundaries was also recommended, to establish a definite date for them. Monitoring of topsoil removal during construction was recommended for areas near the kiln and burnt mounds.
