An elaborate network of trenches on the flat top of a ridge between the rivers Suir and Blackwater, opened before construction of the N25 Waterford Bypass, revealed no indication of past settlement sites. A pattern of disused field boundaries was associated with the surviving road to Kilmacow and may date to the post-medieval or medieval period. Concentrations of charcoal on the hillside above the Blackwater may be debris from clearing woodland or scrub, perhaps only two centuries ago.
Land clearance and cultivation in the narrow field beside the Blackwater is undated but may be only two centuries old.
