Testing was undertaken at a proposed development site to the rear of 27 North Main Street, Naas, on 12 February 2002. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential of Naas and backs onto the churchyard of St David’s parish church. This church, which dates to the 13th century, may have been constructed on the site of a pre-Norman foundation.
Testing consisted of the mechanical excavation of two trenches. They contained a layer of topsoil, 0.24m deep, overlying an undisturbed gravel subsoil. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered.
