Testing was undertaken at a proposed development site at Corban’s Lane, Naas, on 22 April 2002. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential of Naas, in the environs of the postulated line of the Anglo-Norman defences and of Corban’s Gate. In addition, part of the defensive line in this area of the town is believed to coincide with that of the Early Christian enclosure.
Three trenches were excavated by hand. The testing revealed a layer of topsoil, 0.24m deep, overlying an undisturbed gravel subsoil. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered.
