Monitoring of preliminary ground-investigation work preceding the County Kildare Water Strategy Phases 1A and 1B was carried out over eleven days from 18 June 2002. A total of 52 test-pits along the line of the proposed routes between Naas, Ballymore Eustace, Old Kilcullen and Athy were excavated to locate existing water mains. Two of the pits were within the zone of archaeological potential of Ardscull, and one pit was in the vicinity of an enclosure and field system at Russelstown (SMR 35:20). Nothing of archaeological interest was recorded.
