Monitoring of topsoil-stripping/general ground-reduction works associated with the provision of a temporary carpark at Carton Demesne, Co. Kildare, was undertaken from 15 to 20 April 2002. The development area is within a walled garden, possibly originally an orchard, of mid-18th-century date. No features or finds of archaeological interest were uncovered. There were no indications of former pathways that are known to have traversed the area, although it is probable that these were ploughed out during the mid-20th century when the site was used as a vegetable garden.
