Excavation was carried out on behalf of Westmeath County Council at Martinstown 1, Co. Kildare, before the construction of the M4 Kinnegad– Enfield–Kilcock Motorway Scheme, Contract 2, from 9 to 12 August 2002. The site had been noted during route testing as possible pits and a ditch. The pits were found to be geological features, probably glacial, and of no archaeological significance, and the ditch consisted of two conjoined post-medieval furrows.
