Testing was undertaken at a proposed development site at Knockfield, Castledermot, Co. Kildare, on 22 April 2002. The site is near an enclosure site, c. 250m to the north-west, and a ringfort site, c. 10m to the south. The latter site, divided from the development area by a road, was levelled in the last 30 years or so.
The testing consisted of the mechanical excavation of three trenches within the confines of the site. It revealed a 317mm layer of topsoil overlying an undisturbed sand and sandy gravel deposit. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered.
