Excavation was carried out on behalf of Westmeath County Council at Kilmore 1, Co. Kildare, before the construction of the M4 Kinnegad–Enfield–Kilcock Motorway Scheme, Contract 2, on 20 September 2002. The site had been noted during route testing as a possible pit. It was found to be a geological feature of no archaeological significance.
