Testing was undertaken at the site of the proposed development of a terrace of five two-storey houses at Chapel Hill, Kildare, within the zone of archaeological potential of Kildare town, north of a complex of monuments including St Brigid’s Cathedral and an early monastic site. Furthermore, there is documentary and cartographic evidence that a Roman Catholic chapel dating to the 18th century lay on the western side of Chapel Hill.
Four trenches were mechanically excavated. No features of archaeological interest were uncovered, and the only artefact found was a single sherd of green-glazed medieval pottery.
