Monitoring was carried out on a 17th-century bridge site in Johnstown townland, straddling the border of counties Kildare and Meath, during pipe laying for Bord Gáis Éireann. The early post-medieval bridge was demolished and replaced by the current structure in 1840 as part of the Blackwater Drainage Scheme, when the riverbed was significantly lowered.
Monitoring concentrated on the entrance- and exit-hole for a directional drilling rig either side of the bridge, where two small pits were excavated to accommodate the drilling rig for pipe laying under the bridge and river. No archaeological features were encountered during the monitoring.
